Steps To Connect Netgear Extender To New Router:

Here is your step-by-step guide to doing Netgear Extender Setup easily. By following this, you can connect your Netgear extender to a new router;

  1. The prime step is to enable the power supply by plugging the extender into the electrical outlet.

  2. If the power LED bulb is lit, then move ahead. If not, manually press the power on/off button to switch it on.

  3. Then, establish a connection between your PC system and the Netgear wifi extender. To connect, search for the available SSIDs, and your SSID is NETGEAR_EXT.

  4. Now type the password that can be ‘password’ or it might not be password protected.

  5. A warning might reflect on your display, ‘Internet unavailable’. But, you can still be linked to the wifi network.

  6. Launch an internet browser and enter the URL mywifiext.net or the IP address 192.168.1.250.

  7. By this, you will be signed into a New extender setup page on your display screen.

  8. Tap on the ‘NEW EXTENDER SETUP’ to link to a new wifi router.

  9. Click on ‘yes’ for any terms and conditions that might reflect on your screen.

  10. Then choose the admin’s login details. These login credentials help you log into your Netgear extender on the browser. These are as follows-

  • Enter ‘Admin’ in the username as it is the default username.

  • Enter any password in the place of a password, but it should be different from your wireless network’s password.

  1. The drop-down menu that shows select two security questions could be any. These are used at the time of recovering your account if you don’t remember your login credentials.

  2. Tap on Next to finish the setup. If a prompt tells you to use the Netgear genie, hit the Continue icon.

  3. Then you have to select the radio buttons for your connection. Choose either 2.4GHz or 5 GHz. Press on See more to check for networks if you see none.

  4. Now press the next button to proceed.

  5. Type in your existing wifi network’s passkey and tap on the Next button.

  6. Then for your wifi extender, select the SSID and password. The default SSID for the 2.4 GHz frequency band is _2GEXT, and the 5 GHz frequency band is _5GEXT.

  7. The password remains the same as the existing wifi network for both the bands.

  8. To apply the settings you have just made, click on the ‘Next’ option. This setup will take a few seconds.

  9. The extender will show the wifi SSID and password for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands. Write them somewhere so that you don’t forget in the future.

  10. Navigate to the wifi settings of the device you wish to connect to the extended network. Then, please connect to the network by clicking on it.

  11. Navigate back to your web browser, tick the checkbox present at the bottom of the page, and click Continue to proceed.

  12. Finally, your range extender is now covering the dead spots of the network connection as well.
