Instructions To Connect Netgear Extender To New Router:

 

  1. Plug the Netgear wifi extender into an electrical socket and then switch it on.

  2. Check the power LED bulb, if it’s lit then continue, if not, then manually press the power button.

  3. Connect your computer system and the Netgear wifi extender.

  4. Search for the Netgear wifi extender SSID i.e., NETGEAR_EXT.

  5. Enter ‘password’ in the password field and press the enter key.

  6. A warning might display on your screen, ‘Internet unavailable’ But, you have to be connected to the wifi network.

  7. Now, open an internet browser and type the URL mywifiext.net or the IP address 192.168.1.250. 

  8. By this, you will be signed into a New extender setup page on your desktop.

  9. Click on the ‘NEW EXTENDER SETUP’ tab to connect to a new wifi router. 

  10. Click yes for any terms and conditions that will display on your screen. 

  11. Then choose the admin’s login information. These login details help you to log into your Netgear extender on the web browser. These are as follows-

  • Enter ‘admin’ in the username fields as it is the default username.

  • Enter any password in the place of a password, but it should be different from your wifi network’s password.

  1. From the drop-down menu that displays select 2 security questions, it could be any. These are used at the time of recovering your account in case you forget your login details.

  2. Tap on the Next tab to finish the setup. In case a prompt asks you to use the Netgear genie then press the Continue tab.

  3. Then you have to choose the radio buttons for your connection. Choose either 2.4GHz or 5 GHz. Click on the ‘See more’ tab to check for networks if you don’t see any.

  4. After that, click on the next tab to move further.

  5. Enter your existing wifi network’s password and then click on the Next tab.

  6. Then for your wifi range extender select the SSID and password. 

  7. The default SSID for the 2.4 GHz frequency band is _2GEXT. 

  8. For the 5 GHz frequency band, the default network name is _5GEXT. The password remains the same as the existing wifi network for both the bands.

  9. To apply the settings you have recently done, click on the Next tab. This will take a few moments. 

  10. The extender will show the wifi network name i.e. network name and password for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands. 

  11. Write them somewhere so that you don’t forget them next time.

  12. Visit the wifi settings of the system you wish to connect to the extended network. Then, connect to the network by clicking on it.

  13. Navigate back to your web browser and tick the checkbox present at the bottom of the page and click on Continue to proceed. That’s it, your range extender is now covering the dead spots of the network connection as well.
